Substack!

testing the waters
4

Hello everybody! After reading up on everyone elses Substacks, I’ve decided to quit the lurking and give this a proper go! An introduction: I’m Claartje van Swaaij, I live in Amsterdam, I’ve been roaming the web under the name cableclair (ever since I was 14 and never bothered to use anything else). I’m an actress and I paint and draw as well. I transcribe audio. Sometimes I create subtitles. I do a lot of things.

I’m going to make this a place where I share artworks, bits of writing, video's (see the video above, that’s a snippet from a commercial casting. There is a lot of self taping in the world of casting as of late, so I find myself doing camera, lights, editing and my own stunts, do I book it? Sometimes. Did I book this one? NO! I know!

But now I have this smashing Substack, where I will share and overshare my trials and tribulations. and anything else I see fit. (crows, expect some crows. In fact, expect a lot of them).

One of the crows I feed on a regular basis, painted by me in Procreate on my Ipad.

This will be my spot to experiment and express myself and share things I find interesting, on a semi regular basis. It's a fluid thing a.k.a. I don't know yet. I've been missing the weblog days of Internet past. Reading everyone elses Substacks, it gave me that nostalgic feeling of the time everyone was mainly having fun and being creative and silly and when everybody wasn't so preoccupied with being "on brand" or a business model. (yet don't hestitate to shove loads and loads of cash my way!).

It's going to be in English because most of the people I interact with online are not Dutch, so I figured I'd stick to English, to broaden the horizon/net/what have you. Though occasionally there might be something Dutch only, as I am from the Netherlands after all and else people will think I krijg it te hoog in my bol and that moeten we niet hebben. And to prevent that, there are probably going to be a lot of stupid grammar and spelling mistakes, too, because why look smart when you can look like an idiot. But hey! Then you’ll know at least it’s not written by AI. I hope you’ll enjoy your time here. Follow along! Drop a comment or two, spread the word. It’s much appreciated.

What’s in it for you? Coming up will hopefully also be Zines and stickers and prints and announcements of gigs. Maybe I’ll dabble into animation a bit more properly as well as I progress away from the stuff I find cringe worthy now. I’ll leave you with the latest in my sketchbook:

Lady and her bush
